How to seal a shipping container?

Sealing a shipping container correctly is essential to ensure cargo security, tamper evidence, and customs compliance. Follow these steps to properly seal a container:

1. Inspect the Container Doors
   Ensure both doors are fully closed and the locking bars are properly aligned. Check that the hasps (locking holes) are intact and undamaged.

2. Choose the Correct Seal Type
   For international shipping, use an ISO 17712 compliant high-security seal, such as a bolt seal or high-strength Cable Seal. Plastic seals are generally used only for low-risk or domestic shipments.

3. Apply the Seal
   Insert the seal through the container’s locking hasp.

   • For bolt seals, push the bolt and locking barrel together until fully locked.

   • For cable seals, thread the cable through the hasp and pull tight until secure.

4. Verify the Seal
   Ensure the seal is firmly locked and cannot be removed without visible damage.

5. Record the Seal Number
   Document the seal number on the bill of lading, packing list, or shipping documents for tracking and inspection purposes.

Proper sealing helps prevent theft, contamination, and unauthorized access throughout the supply chain.
